Wakefield. This book was published by Tommy Nelson and is a re-issue. The target audience is 4 to 11 years old. This book covers stories in both the Old and New Testament. This is a wonderful book for children's daily devotions, or for Sunday School. Each story has selected scripture and some words from Billy Graham to go along with it. The illustrations fill up the entire page and are bright and colorful (there are pictures of Jesus/2CV's).The book is good quality. The pages are sewn together, and are thick and glossy. There's also a ribbon bookmark.Â
There's a name that just about everybody recognizes, whether it sparks feelings of sentiment or dislike, almost everyone knows who Billy Graham was. Billy Graham's "God's Good News" contains some of the late evangelist's classic insight. The book contains more than 60 Bible stories with direct readings from selected scriptures of the NKJV. This children's devotional is illustrated by Scott Wakefield, whose charming artwork is arguably one of the best features of the book.At the end of each Bible story is a short devotional reading written by Graham. To be frank, I am not entirely fond of certain doctrinal assertions made in these readings and a few things written that may have been unintended such as "On that first Easter morning, something happened that had never happened before in the history of the human race — and would never happen again: someone came back from the dead, never to die again" which appears to deny the physical resurrection of the rest of us. Most of the devotionals, though, are what one might expect from the average children's book.The Bible stories themselves are well-selected and important for children to learn, though I would suggest this for devotional purposes rather than instructional with guidance from a theologically sound grown-up. Overall, I liked the artwork and the stories and Graham's devotionals are, for the most part, insightful.I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review. As I read through God's Good News I can almost hear the voice of Billy Graham as he time and time again spoke of God's Good News. We heard him on television and we attended a crusade in a town near us. We have a long-playing vinyl recording of him, too.Was he perfect? No. Was he a minister of God's good news? Yes. And this children's Bible story book and devotional with excerpts of Billy Graham's messages included is a treasure.The book is filled with phrases that resonate with "Billy Graham's voice" - God loves you, He forgives you, He is a God of mercy, God has a plan for your life. Each story is Biblical and applications made that are simple to understand and yet profound in theological meaning.These 60 plus stories and devotions will bring God's good news to the family that reads it together. It is ideal for the young reader to begin his or her own devotional readings in private as well as family time.The illustrations are realistic yet have a modern "look" to them and bring the stories to life for the reader.I highly recommend this Bible story and devotional to families and home libraries as well as church and school libraries. This beloved book can be enjoyed by children and adults alike; children can discover Graham’s sermons for the first time, while their parents can revisit Graham’s comforting writing style.The over 60 Bible stories include a variety of stories from the Old Testament and New Testament, which provide a good basis for learning key elements of major Bible stories. We also learn about many key figures in the Bible, from Joseph, to Esther, to Peter and Paul. Billy Graham’s devotions describe the Bible stories while also being thoughtful and insightful.Some of my favorite sections talked about Daniel in the Lions’ Den, The Last Supper, and Jericho’s Crumbling Walls. I also loved looking at the book’s illustrations; they have a very classic feel. The built-in blue ribbon bookmark was helpful for keeping my place when looking through the book.I received this book for review.
What a wonderful way for children to learn about the bible! The illustrations are beautiful, and bring each and every story to life for the child who is reading. They are vivid, fun and eye catching. Each story states where in the bible it is found, which is a great tool for children learning where different books are in their bible. Parents and Sunday School teachers can use them as lessons, or just as daily devotionals. At the end of each story Graham provides words of wisdom that will touch a child's heart and help the stories to resonate even more inside of them.I would gladly share this book with the young people on my church and family, and I encourage you to do the same!
