About the Author
Karma Singye Dorji leads cultural journeys to Bhutan. He was born and raised in the Himalayan Kingdom, and it was there that he met and fell in love with his wife. He now divides his time between the Himalayas and the Central Coast of California, where he discovered a passion for surfing. Karma is currently writing a mythical adventure book based on an old Himalayan legend, inspired by his sons, who are ardent fans of Tolkien. Sandy Shum was born in California and has lived in Asia for two decades, including Bhutan from 1994 until 1998. Using a vintage Polaroid sx-70 camera and and the now extinct Time-Zero film, she has created impressionistic photography for over ten years. Sandy exhibits her work internationally, and her photographs are held in private collections the world over. Sandy currently lives in Thailand with her husband.

Charming images set to good text! As a cultural anthropologist who has been lucky enough to visit Bhutan twice, I loved this book!
What a presence this volume has - the union of word and image enlivening the whole experience for the reader/viewer. I love the writing style, so full of poetry, humor, and grace. And the essays are such moral tales - a rarity in contemporary literature - something from which we can all benefit. And the photography! What exquisite, wavey images....and a beautiful palette.... and all those white flags in that ocean of sky. I have too many favorites to count.-------
Oh wow! I received this beautiful, beautiful book and it has exceeded my expectations! The art is so amazing! I can look at each photo ( although I haven't drank up all of them, YET!) and I'm transported and I drift away. My husband was also so touched with the "photos"- so proof one needn't have been there to appreciate Sandy's artwork.Karma's writing is absolutely beautiful. I seem to keep starting at the beginning, and then I re-read it. I can't help but reflect and then savor the memories triggered. So , now i have new writings (along with the new artwork) awaiting to spark my senses.
This is a gorgeous book. I want to cut the photos out and frame them; they are part painting, part photo, absolutely dreamy. The stories make me want to go there. I will have to make do with the book for now. Not the run of the mill travel/coffee table book.
The combination of Dorgi's essays with Shum's Polaroid photos imparts just the right mood to this wonderful collection of essays about life in Bhutan. Rarely does one see such detailed manipulation of Polaroid photos put to the use of giving a dreamlike quality to this extrordinary book. One comes away after reading with what must be the mood of Bhutan.
It has the power to make you travel very very far into the landscapes, culture and magic of traditional Bhutan!
